Taken together with what I wrote in my last post, it is clear that Putin’s Russia faces a catastrophic collapse and recent events suggest it is accelerating.
Yesterday's announcement by Putin of mobilization in Russia and penalties for failing to serve will add pressure on Ukraine but, more importantly, they will increase pressure on Russian society. The war will now touch directly the lives of Russians in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The breaking point may not be in Moscow though but in eastern Ukraine where the new conscripts will face the reality of life on the front line where troops are already demoralized and the military is poorly organized and led.
